I’m Len Overbeek.  I’ve been married for 24 years to my lovely wife Melissa, together we are raising 5 sons and a daughter.  I’ve been privileged to attend the NRC of Norwich for 25 years, and the values, and love for our neighbor that we are taught there, will help me to serve my community. I have lived in the small hamlet of Oriel since 2012 and know the importance of preserving our rural communities..   My current role at Tilt Wall Ontario, a business I helped co-found in 2002, is business development.  Having been involved in the construction industry for over 25 years has given me the privilege of being on various association boards, the experience that I have gained there will assist me in providing strong leadership for our community.

With all the young students at Emily Stowe, Do you support a New High School?

100% youth and healthy families are one of the most important things for me!  For a community to thrive properly we need to make sure we keep our youth, and having a high school is a very important piece of the puzzle.

With hate crimes on the rise in Norwich, do you support a greater police presence in Norwich?

I’ve always believed in community policing and would definitely support a more local police presence.

With the increased traffic on HWY 59 through town.  Do you support traffic calming measures?

Yes, rural communities always seem to be subject to excessive speeding, and any way that we can reduce that is going to contribute to the wellbeing of our township.

How would you support Merchants (stores and business) in town?

Being a business owner myself I realize that red tape can get in the way of any successful business, and so where feasible I would like to make it easier for businesses to do business in Norwich.

Would you support merchants if they opened their establishments on Sunday?

I will continue to support local businesses whenever possible.  I also believe the Lord’s Day is set aside as a special day of worship and family time, and therefore would not support opening businesses on Sunday and forcing employees to give up their Sunday for the benefit of others.

Do you support the charter of rights and freedoms (I.e. race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, family status, genetic characteristics, disability etc)?

Yes I do, from the opening words “Whereas Canada is founded upon the principals that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law:”  through to the citation,  “We must now establish the basic principles, the basic values and beliefs which hold us together as Canadians so that beyond our regional loyalties there is a way of life and a system of values which make is proud of the country that has given us such freedom and such immeasurable joy.”
